Diane L Silver is a mixed media painter, video artist, and has created installations with community involvement. She lives and works in Arizona and California. She has received a resident artist grant from the U.S. Department of State and a Vibrant City Grant from Tempe, AZ. Her award-winning work has been exhibited in private and public galleries, and is in the permanent collection of the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as numerous private collections, including the LaoNiu Brothers & Sisters Foundation, Beijing, China. Her multidisciplinary work delves into the intriguing realms of memory, language, and nature. Her work often contains fragments of her writing, gestural marks, and vibrant color.

Diane was born and raised between the rugged coastline of New England and the lush, sun-drenched landscapes of Florida—two very different worlds that shaped her early sense of place and beauty. From those diverse beginnings, she has always been drawn to contrasts—of light and shadow, movement and stillness, interior and exterior worlds. Though art always pulled quietly at the edges of her life, her early career as a lawyer grounded her in the power of language and structure. But it was through travel—across more than 70 countries—that she began to truly see. Each place offered a different palette, a different rhythm, and slowly, a different sense of self.

A turning point came during a solitary stay in Buenos Aires, where she began to explore visual expression more seriously. Removed from familiar expectations, Diane found space to listen inwardly and experiment freely. Drawing and painting became a way of translating lived experience into form, gesture, and color—a process of distillation and discovery. Her work today reflects this journey: rooted in observation, shaped by global experience, and animated by a search for resonance and connection.

Diane’s art studies include New York University, Scottsdale Community College and Anderson Ranch in Colorado. She has both a BA degree and a MAT degree from Simmons College, as well as a JD degree from Boston College Law School. Diane is represented by Gebert Contemporary, 7160 Main Street, Scottsdale, AZ.
